INTEGRATIVE NARRATIVE
When I was barely starting college I was lost of what I was gonna do for the rest of my life, what was my vocation going to be? What is life preparing me for? It was really stressing me out, at first I tried agriculture, then business but I notice that I wasn’t attracted to those types of careers and then this happen I joined a Spanish class, I was surprised how comfortable I feel in that class, how it caught my attention and how I felt the desire to want to learn more about the culture and language. This was the beginning of wanting to dedicate myself and obtain a degree in Spanish so that I could dedicate myself to being a teacher and teach this beautiful language to people. Choosing this career of Spanish and Hispanic culture in Hartnell and CSUMB really helped me improve academically and personally. I have learned a lot from this major. It has given me great experiences in my time at CSUMB. I have met great people like my professors and classmates. At first I thought Spanish would be an easy major but no it’s not easy you have to learn lots of things in this major, it had improve me to be a reader I’d never like reading but know I found this important and I really enjoy reading, I have learned to improve my communication skills, listening, writing and like I said before my reading. Learning about all historical events of Latin America and learning a better way to analyze these historical events was really interesting, it showed me another way to see Latin American society. I also learned the grammatical structure of this language, as well as the characteristics of this language in general. My initial goal was to learn more of this language and I really did. Some of the areas I am most proud of learning in this program was for it to help me improve each weak point that I had in this language. I improved in communication, reading and grammar. I’m really proud of what I have achieved, especially in reading, writing and speaking. I’m really proud of myself about my learning in CSUMB it was really exciting the way I’d improve my knowledge in this language hopefully in a future I can still keep improving my knowledge by teaching all I know to future generations that would like to follow the same steps for this career which shows the beauty of a language and culture in Latin America.
