Course Description: This course introduces students to the Japanese Language and Culture, or Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures majors. Students acquire knowledge and understanding needed to fulfill Major Learning Outcomes for the programs, including literature, culture and linguistics, and to develop individual learning plans. The course examines opportunities in related professional and career paths, such as graduate education and teaching credential preparation.
Course Narrative: This course WLC 300 is designed to help students acquire and develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to fulfill the core requirements and major-specific learning outcomes for the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Japanese language and culture and the B.A. in Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures; and to introduce students to the research and technology skills necessary for success in their respective majors. In the Major Pro-seminar students will also be introduced to a range of career opportunities associated with the Japanese and Spanish majors and, with the guidance of the ProSeminar instructor and other designated faculty, will develop a learning plan appropriate to their personal and professional goals. All the learning outcomes and associated learning experiences of the World Languages and Cultures academic program have been built on CSUMB’s Founding Vision Statement.
