Course Description: Through the completion of a community project, students will demonstrate that they have actively immersed themselves in authentic Hispanic cultural and linguistic environments and have internalized the language and cultural experience, from which they have developed personal understanding and new perspectives of Hispanic communities. This course is taught in Spanish.
Course Narrative: This course Span 495 taught me another way to see my community and how values are important to people in the way they see life. In this class we needed to do two interviews that are relevant to the values Latino community has, which took me to two men that had been through a lot in order to achieve their dreams, it was interesting to me how their age did not make much difference to what they have experienced, they both experienced a difficult life and with their values they still manage to look for the best for themselves and their families. After doing the interviews we had to talk about how our experience for me was different and an interesting experience since it helped me see another view on how values can be so powerful. I feel that it is important to document these interviews or stories for the simple fact that there are many people who need to observe that there are people with the same stories so that they do not feel alone that they look at an example of improvement with other people and thus observe how there are people with same values or thoughts and also how there are people with different values and thoughts.
