Course Description: Study of the development of Spanish culture & civilization through geography, religion, sociology, and the arts of the Iberian Peninsula with special reference to the ways of thinking and cultural products. Taught in Spanish.
Course Narrative: In this course, Span 316 allows students to communicate effectively in Spanish in three modes: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational, and in a culturally appropriate manner in a variety of social and professional settings and circumstances at the Advanced Low level of language proficiency, according to ACTFL Guidelines. I took this class with professor Vila Diéguez. It helped me speak Spanish with sufficient accuracy to participate effectively in most formal and informal conversations on practical, social, professional, and abstract topics, and to tailor my speech to meet the needs of the different levels of speakers of the language. In this class we understand the details of speech in standard dialects and will follow the essentials of conceptually and linguistically complex extended discourse in academic or professional settings, lectures, speeches, and reports. Also, I was able to read with considerable comprehension a variety of literary texts and expository prose on unfamiliar subjects. Finally, I was able to express myself in formal and informal writings on practical, social, and professional topics.
